Hardbeat – Unleashing The Underground

New Music Roundup – 15th January 2024

Anchorheart – Pages Covered In Ink

Release Date: 12th January 2024

Budapest based rock band Anchorheart released their latest single, and only third they’ve ever released, last week in the form of ‘Pages Covered In Ink’. The track is taken from the Hungarian band’s upcoming EP, one which will see them embrace the beautiful softness of the vocals, combined with a very American rock style of music that fuses acoustic elements with a classic rock vibe that will have fans of bands like Stone Temple Pilots looking back a couple of decades (and wondering when they went a little bit country).

Good Cop – Hunting Party

Release Date: 12th January 2024

When a band takes hardcore as a genre and decides ‘that’s not quite choatic enough’, it could either be pure nonsense or a delightfully heavy affair that combines a classic garage rock vibe with a sense of what is to come from this band in a live setting.

British mob Good Cop will release their EP No Country For The Young soon and ‘Hunting Party’ is the lead single from it. Taking choas to a stoner-esque place, the track has booming guitars and back up what is an erratic and noisy affair. This is fun, heavy and you just know people are getting hurt at their shows.

Lizzy Esau – Impossible + Strange

Release Date: 12th January 2024

Born in the South East, raised in the North East, pop-rocker Lizzy Esau will be hoping that ‘Impossible + Strange’ continues the her heavily upwards trajectory that started in 2022, continued with 2023’s EP release Deepest Blue and with Amazon series features lined up it’s showing no signs of slowing, let alone stopping.

From the intro it would be easy to write this track off if you’re far more into the rock than pop, but from the 45 second mark it opens up and combines Esau’s silky vocals with a catchy beat that will refuse to be ignored. Atmospherically heavy, if musically not so much, ‘Impossible + Strange’ will have you stopped in your tracks while its on.

Ghost Giver – Dead (Inside)

Release Date: 16th December 2023

Mental health will always be an important topic in alternative music and ‘Dead (Inside)’ is Amercian metallers Ghost Giver’s latest track to feature that inwards look at one’s self.

Strongly leaning into metalcore, ‘Dead (Inside)’, by the way who doesn’t love a track with brackets in the name?!, features heaviness throughout. The more melodic elements provide little respite with the vocals especially working hard to keep the energy up on the song. This is an accomplished track for a band with just three songs to date. One to keep an eye on for sure.

The Baby Seals – Mild Misogynist

Release Date: 9th January 2024

Coming from the East of England, The Baby Seals are back after almost seven years with a debut album coming soon. ‘Mil Misogynist’ is the first single the band have released since 2017 and it’s fair to say that it has been far too long.

There’s little doubting the subject matter of this punk band’s latest song, with the band harnessing the spirit of punk and have delivered a modern sounding track that combines pacy guitars and attitude-laden vocals. The new album, Choas, has the potential to make a big name for The Baby Seals.
