Introducing FIVER. Punk-rock from Oxford who recently released their debut single. Not taking themselves too seriously, they took the time to take our ‘Introducing’ interview. Give it a read, give them a listen and check them out on their Spotify | Soundcloud | Instagram
Heya, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today! For those living under a rock, can you tell us a bit about yourselves as a band?
We’re FIVER, a four-piece Rock Band from Oxford in the UK. We started gigging and recording in May of this year, and since then have played countless sweaty gigs in and around the city. We try to write music that’ll make you wanna dance and fight.
You’ve just released new music, can you tell us a little about it and what it means to you?
Frog Song has been in the setlist since the beginning, and the actual riff has been floating around for years. We always start the set with it, and think it’s a good “punch in the gut” tune to wake everyone up.
Do you have a favourite track on there or is it like picking your favourite dog breed?
Since it’s the only song, I’d have to say Frog Song.
Can you give us an insight into how you write tracks and has this changed as you’ve become more comfortable working together?
We always just try and keep things simple. It sounds like a cliche, but if and when we start overcomplicating things, we usually end up losing interest or falling out with our drummer Fred.
What was the original inspiration for you wanting to get into music and is the current style where you thought you would head?
There’s not much to do around where we all grew up, so getting together and Jamming was good to just pass the time. Once we actually opened our ears and realised we sounded alright, we started to take it a bit more seriously. We’ve always played in this current style. It used to be a bit more “punky”, and it’s probably now more grungy.

We play a gig up in Leeds on the 12th January 2024. Pandemonium are the promoter, who are new local team that seem to be super keen to put on great memorable nights. We can’t wait for that, and to meet those guys and girls.
What’s the ultimate goal for the band? Headlining major festivals, playing a certain venue or just having as much fun as you can?
Again, sounds cliche, but just having fun and not taking it all too seriously. We believe our tunes have stamina, so if we end up playing bigger shows then that’s great. But for now, we just love to gig and record when we can, and are grateful for any opportunity we get.
Outside of the day to day band life, what gets you up in the morning?
The fact we all have to go to our 9-5.
Finally, are there any bands that you’d like to give a shout-out to?
Not a band, but a promoter. Mark Osprey from Oxford, he gave us our first gig and is an overall hilarious bloke.
Thanks for your time! Is there anything you’d like to say or promote while you’re here?
Don’t think so. Thanks for your time and hope you enjoy our music if you ever get a chance to listen.
Give this and some of the other awesome tracks we’re featuring on this playlist (give it a save as well while you’re at it!)
