There’s something that’s calming about a band playing heavy music and actually letting some of the rawness that should be part and parcel of the style shine. Whether it’s consciously or not, from Michigan, USA, Approaching Autumn have let that happen on ‘Conquest’ and the track is all the better for it.
Whether it be the gradual plodding of the drums that seems to tack into the primal area of the brain or the dual vocalists that provide the contrast that metalcore requires, ‘Conquest’ has the hallmarks of one of those songs you walk past at a festival and it just piques your interest.
