New Music Roundup – 20th March 2024 – Part 2

Heavy AM – breathe thruu

Release Date: 6th February 2024

Coining a new genre to fit your music is a risky move, but a move that pays off for Heavy AM as ‘dreamcore’ comes to life. ‘breathe thruu’ is an aural assault in the same ilk as Defones and the like. It’s not a full blown metal affair but there’s just something about it that pulls you in and takes over your brain for a couple of minutes. The track clears out everything and just occupies the listener for a while.

Field Of View – Exit Strategy

Release Date: 17th November 2023

Less than a year into their career, emo rockers Field Of View have just got an EP to their name in the form of S/T. ‘Exit Strategy’ is the opening song from the five-track piece and works well as the welcoming hand to this new band. Vocals that vary from soft and slightly down to catchy and expressive bring to life an interesting track that will have you back for more.

I Ya Toyah – Panic Room

Release Date: 27th October 2023

Described as a movement, not a musical act, I Ya Toyah has put a lot of pressure on her shoulders. Pressure that she’s looking to rise to with 2023’s ‘Panic Room’ and beyond. Electronic influences run riot on the track that has echoes of acts like Casseyette. There’s a huge energy that runs through everything that the Chicago-based artist puts out and that’s certainly the case here.

GreenWing – At The Time

Release Date: 9th February 2024

Something a bit more classically alt-rock comes next with Canadian rockers GreenWing and their latest track ‘At The Time’. A bit of a slow-burning track brings traditional rock vibes together with indie influences to create a catchy song that will have everyone dancing their way through it when played live.

ENSHROUD – Frailty

Release Date: 25th February 2024

The dancing is replaced by riffs, brutal power and more riffs here though as Irish metal outfit tear through new track ‘Frailty’. Musically the track is epic. Not in that modern sense, it genuinely feels like a fantasy adventure and is matched vocally. If you close your eyes you can almost feel the snowy mountains surrounding you. Turn this one up LOUD!
