Hardbeat – Unleashing The Underground

New Music Roundup – 23rd January 2024 – Part 2

FOXHAUNT – Blissful Ignorance

Release Date: 10th January 2024

York based quartet FOXHAUNT dropped their first track of the year almost two weeks ago and with ‘Blissful Ignorance’ seeing the band launch what could be a huge 2024 for them. With a sound that echoes everything from turn of the century hard rock to more modern alt-rock, the bouncy vibe that the band have created is countered somewhat by the slightly sombre lyrical content that is harboured within. Already their most streamed track on Spotify, there’s a huge audience just waiting to jump on this one. May as well get your spot.

LULL – Sleep

Release Date: 3rd January 2024

With a band and song name that will probably have you wanting to drop off, there’s a lot for this Georgie band to do to bring you back round. Happily they do that within seconds of ‘Sleep’ starting. Bringing post-hardcore vibes to the fore, LULL are thriving in a North-East scene that seems to be producing some serious talent and that’s no real surprise. Vocally enticing, musically ranging from soft and considered intros through almost shoegaze-esque soundscapes, all of this within just 133 seconds.

Grave Faces – Living For Nothing

Release Date: 12th January 2024

As if to double down on the fact that the punk scene in the North-East is booming, Grave Faces dropped their debut single in mid-January. ‘Living For Nothing’ may be the first track that the five-piece have released but there’s no doubting that there’s another band that are going to be pushing for your attention this year. From a few seconds in you can hear their punky roots shining through and see that this is going to be a project that is just oozing energy and power. There are going to be some sweaty gigs when Grave Faces come to town. Gritty vocals, fast guitars, lyrics that are begging to be sung back to the band. Expectations are rising here already.

Sages – Falling (feat. Beau Burchell)

Release Date: 10th November 2023

Whilst the band may have been around for a while, it has been more than six years since a release from supergroup of sorts Sages. Featuring members of bands such as Black Map, FAR, Simon Says and produced by Beau of Saosin, there’s a lot riding on new music. Expectations that are met on ‘Falling’ as the expansive track moves through various styles. Hard rock is at its heart but there are screamo sections mixed in with some more experimental style sections too. Plus a tasty solo and catchy vocals. There’s not a lot this song doesn’t do.
