Release Date: 29th November 2023
At five tracks and 18 minutes in running time, Can You See? is the debut release from South Coast rockers Fever Rouge. A release that sees them embrace indie and everything that has been good about it in the past couple of decades. It’s an EP that launches straight out of some lovely reverb into what is quintessential indie, though it does dabble in some more modern styles too.
‘Red Light Fever’ is the opener and at just over five minutes long takes up a good chunk of the running time. There For those that are nostalgic for the mid-noughties indie, this track is packed with influences from the likes of The Kooks, also a Brighton-based band, though is far more energetic than anything from them. This track becomes a trend for the rest of the album with the other four songs putting out danceable vibes that will have people reaching for their dancing shoes.
‘Locked n Loaded’ continues the party, jumping from some spoken vocals at the start, into some high octane rock with jazzy drums and a sleazy underbelly. This track is the epitome of catchiness, so much so that if you’re sat still while this track is on then it’s probably a sign to check if you’re legs are working. The energy does drop for the beginning of ‘Golden’ for sure, though not to the point it disrupts the flow of the record. The drumming is still exemplary and this song in particular is the biggest throwback track of the five.
The EP’s title track acts as more of an interlude than anything, channelling Twenty One Pilots whilst meandering vocals portray a sense of hopelessness over a desperate soundscape before launching into an essential indie track, ‘Paint Me’. A fitting end to an EP that gives a strong insight into the type of band we’ve got on our hands with Fever Rouge. There’s no messing about, this is a record by a group of indie fans that are passionate about their genre. Get it on and get ready for a bit of a dance!
