Eluveitie – Evocation II – Pantheon

Release Date: 18th August 2017

Label: Nuclear Blast

The Swiss giants Eluveitie have something new…but can it top their previous album ‘Origin’. I had a listen to their new folky rendition and true to life, it’s folky as hell. If I remember rightly, these guys have had a bit of a line-up change recently, but that’s clearly had no major effect over their song writing.

Pipes, Violins, Celtic Harps and that awesome sounding Hurdy-Gurdy are splurged over every track! Its crazy. If folk isn’t your thing, this album really won’t sit right with you. But if you’re a fan of swinging your legs like Michael Flatley in the mosh pit, then get on this!

A lot of this album is instrumental, and what small amount of songs have singing or spoken word, is all in Celtic. I personally found this really cool, but understandable could not be your thing. But give it a chance, it may surprise you.

The big single from the album is Lvgvs, once again sang completely in Celtic, give it a listen here:

A notable absence from the last album is the aggression. Not much in the way of double kick, screams heavy ass guitars. This may upset the fans of the heavier side of Eluveitie. I’m not saying its dead, but its absent on this one guys!

For me this album was great, but it wasn’t ‘Origin’. That album had everything I would ever want from a folk metal band, this was more folk than metal, however still musically incredible.

Rating: 7/10
